It can be used to generate a solid phase microextraction and has been shown to be effective at extracting glutamic acid, halides, and additives. 4-Aminopyridine has hydrophobic effects and can be analyzed by using photophysical techniques such as light emission spectroscopy. This compound also reacts with chlorine or allyl chloride to produce oxidation products that can be analyzed by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR).
