It has a phenoxy group and a sodium carbonate group, which are both acyclic nucleoside phosphonates. L-Isopropyl-l-alanine is used to treat hepatitis B virus infections. It can be synthesized in two forms, an enantiomer and a tenofovir alafenamide hemifumarate. The enantiomer form of L-Isopropyl-l-alanine inhibits HIV reverse transcriptase, while the tenofovir alafenamide hemifumarate form inhibits HIV integrase.
