Descripción

Acebrophylline is an antiinflammatory drug that inhibits the activity of phosphodiesterase and cyclooxygenase. It has been shown to be effective against chronic bronchitis and inflammatory bowel diseases. Acebrophylline is a prodrug that is metabolized by the liver to its active form, 3-hydroxyacebrophylline. This prodrug has a covalent linkage with the anti-inflammatory agent propranolol hydrochloride and can be administered orally or intravenously. The drug's efficacy in inflammatory bowel disease may be due to its ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis.
