2-Acetylpyrrole is a pyrrole derivative that can be used as a reagent in organic synthesis. It has been shown to form stable complexes with amines and other polar compounds, which can be used for the analysis of these analytes by solid phase microextraction (SPME). The Langmuir adsorption isotherm was found to have a maximum at pH 9.5, and the equilibrium constant was found to be 1.3 x 10-3 M-1. The complexation constants of this compound were determined using caproic acid as an indicator of cationic surfactant activity. 2-Acetylpyrrole was also found to react with copper (II) ions to form a copper complex and cyclize into 2-acetylpyridine. This product has also been shown to inhibit the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) enzyme activity in model systems and has been used for structural analysis and hydrolysis reactions
