It is activated by radiation and has been shown to be efficient in the production of optically active species. This molecule also has a dipole moment, which allows it to be used as an amine scavenger. 4-Amino-3-nitrobenzophenone has been synthesised from benzaldehyde and nitroethane with aluminium as the catalyst.
