2-Amino-5-chlorophenol is an aminophenol that is structurally similar to the carcinogen 2-amino-3-methylimidazo[4,5-f]quinoline (IQ). It has been detected in human serum and urine samples of cervical cancer patients. 2-Amino-5-chlorophenol inhibits bacterial growth by reacting with sulphydryl groups to form a reactive intermediate that reacts with DNA, causing mutations and cell death. This chemical has also been shown to react with acetate extracts from biological treatment systems and generate redox cycle reaction products.
