1-Amino-2-naphthol hydrochloride (1ANH) is a sulphanilic compound that has been used as a test compound in flow system experiments. 1ANH reacts with methoxy groups to form an amine, which is then converted to a reactive intermediate. This intermediate can react with the hydroxy group of another molecule and produce a new product that contains both the reactive and hydroxy groups. 1ANH has been shown to be cytotoxic, inhibiting the growth of cultured cells.
