Aminoguanidine is a drug that has been used as an anti-inflammatory agent. It has been shown to reduce the incidence of colonic polyps in rats, and to inhibit the growth of cells in culture. Aminoguanidine sulphate is a derivative of aminoguanidine, which is a basic protein. Aminoguanidine sulphate inhibits GSH-PX activities in diabetic rat serum and also reduces neuronal death in experimental models. This drug also prevents tubulointerstitial injury by inhibiting reactive oxygen species production and enzyme activities.
