Azoic CouPling Component 17 (AC17) is a peptide with a molecular weight of 5.3 kDa that belongs to the phosphatase family. It is expressed in the gastrocnemius muscle and thymus, and found in eosinophilic cells. AC17 has been shown to inhibit the activity of histone deacetylases (HDACs), which are enzymes that regulate gene expression by removing acetyl groups from histones, leading to an increase in cell growth and proliferation. The potential of AC17 as a cancer therapeutic agent has been demonstrated using animal models, where it was able to induce differentiation of leukemic erythroid cells into mature erythrocytes. In addition, AC17 has regenerative properties; it promotes the regeneration of myeloid progenitors and hematopoietic cells.
