Acid Violet 90 is a dye that is used in histology to stain nuclei and cytoplasm. It has been used as a marker for the G1 phase of the cell cycle. Acid Violet 90 binds to nucleic acids by adsorption, which is due to its acidic nature. Acid Violet 90 can act as a serine protease inhibitor, inhibiting protein synthesis and cell division. This inhibition can be reversed by cycloheximide, an inhibitor of serine proteases.
