Agmatine dihydrochloride is a form of agmatine that is used as an anticoagulant. It inhibits the synthesis of proteins and rna in cells, which leads to cell death. Agmatine dihydrochloride binds to receptor ligands and increases the uptake of sodium citrate by cells. This effect may be due to its ability to inhibit protein synthesis or to increase the permeability of cell membranes. Agmatine dihydrochloride has been found to be a fluorescent compound.
