Ammonium cupric chloride dihydrate is an inorganic compound that can be found in the form of lenticular crystals. It has a blue-green color, and it is soluble in water to give a deep green solution. Ammonium cupric chloride dihydrate is insoluble in ethanol, acetone and ether. This compound has been used to study the microstructural properties of hydrochloric acid under high temperature conditions. Ammonium cupric chloride dihydrate has been found to have channeling and plate structures with orientations parallel to the crystallographic axes. The crystals are typically elongated along [001] and show a trigonal prismatic shape with [100] and [010] faces. The crystal habit ranges from tabular to columnar, while its morphology depends on the temperature range where it was grown.
