It has been shown to increase enzyme activities such as carbonyl oxygenase, gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), and alanyl-glutamic acid. It has also been shown to have effects on body mass index, nitrogen atoms, fatty acids, and protein synthesis. Ala-Glu-OH is used in the treatment of abdominal surgery. This amino acid can be found in the human diet or synthesized by bacteria in the digestive tract. The optimum pH for this compound is 5.5, which is close to the pH of stomach secretions and intestinal fluids.
