Descripción:Ala-D-Ala-OH is an amide that is found in the wild-type strain of Streptococcus pneumoniae. It is a ligase inhibitor with a molecular weight of 164.2 daltons and a pK of 10.3. The inhibition of the ligase by Ala-D-Ala-OH may be due to its ability to bind to the penicillin binding protein and inhibit intramolecular hydrogen bonding, which is necessary for peptide bond formation. Ala-D-Ala-OH can also bind to other molecules that have an amide group, such as vancomycin, which has shown anti bacterial activity against Gram positive bacteria.
