L-2-Aminomethylphenylalanine (L-APPA) is a conformationally constrained, synthetic, stereoisomer of L-phenylalanine. L-APPA has been shown to be an antagonist at the μ-opioid receptor and has been shown to have analgesic effects in mice. L-APPA is a chiral molecule with one of its two enantiomers being homochiral (mirror image). The pharmacophore of L-APPA is based on its μ-opioid receptor binding site. The skeleton of the molecule is derived from a natural amino acid, phenylalanine, which makes it structurally similar to other drugs such as morphine and codeine.
