4-Amino-7-iodoquinoline (4AIQ) is a diagnostic agent that is used for the detection of melanotic tissue, and it is also used in radiation therapy for incisional, blood and tissues. 4AIQ is a radioactive isotope that emits gamma rays. It can be detected with a Geiger-Müller tube or a scintillation counter. 4AIQ has an efficiency of about 60% in the detection of melanotic tissue, and it has been shown to have selective affinity for melanin. The use of 4AIQ as a diagnostic agent requires precautions to avoid exposure to radiation.
