1-(Adamantan-1-yl)-3-chloropropan-2-one is a difunctional ketone that is used as an intermediate in the synthesis of other compounds. It can be synthesized by reacting potassium with chloromethyl ketone, followed by the addition of n-substituted difunctional bromomethyl thiourea. 1-(Adamantan-1-yl)-3-chloropropan-2-one reacts with thiocyanate to produce a cyclic sulfide that is not soluble in water. This reaction also produces acetonitrile and hydrogen chloride as byproducts. 1-(Adamantan-1-yl)-3-chloropropan-2-one can be analyzed using gas chromatography or high performance liquid chromatography, which summarize its reactivity.
