- 2-Thiazolidinethione,3-acetyl- (9CI)
- 3-Acetyl-1,3-thiazolidine-2-thione
3-Acetylthiazolidine-2-thione is a divalent heterocyclic compound that is benzannulated by reaction with acetic anhydride. It reacts with acetyl chloride to form 3-acetylthiazolidine-2,4-dione. 3-Acetylthiazolidine-2,4-dione can be acetylated with acetic acid to form 3-(acetylamino)thiazolidine-2,4-dione. This compound can also react with amines and aldehydes to form the corresponding amides and ketones. The chromophore of this molecule is the carbonyl group at position 2 that has a conjugated double bond system. Medicated drugs often contain chiral centers at positions 1 or 2 in the molecule. The enolate ion at position 2 is generated by deprotonation of the ketone using potassium hydroxide solution (KOH
