5-Acetyl-1,3-dimethylbarbituric Acid is a chemical compound that has been used in biochemical research. It is an inhibitor of the enzyme activity of C3b convertase and C5 convertase and has shown to have a complementary effect on the activities of enzymes such as aminopeptidase and protease. 5-Acetyl-1,3-dimethylbarbituric Acid has also been shown to inhibit TNF-α production by human monocytes and plant cells. This drug also inhibits cellular proliferation, which may be due to its ability to interfere with energy production or cell division.
