Allyl(chloromethyl)dimethylsilane is an oxidant that attacks aldehydes, imidazolines, and tetrahydrofurans. It has been shown to be a high yield reagent for the preparation of chiral synopses and compounds containing vinyl groups. The reaction of allyl(chloromethyl)dimethylsilane with amines leads to the formation of N-substituted allyl amides. In addition, it can also be used as a chlorinating agent. Allyl(chloromethyl)dimethylsilane is non-chiral but can react with chloride ions to form chiral products.
