1-Adamantylthiourea is an analytical reagent that is used in the detection of metal ions. It is prepared by the reaction of 1-adamantylisothiocyanate with sodium thiocyanate. 1-Adamantylthiourea has been shown to be a chemosensor for anions, as it changes its color from blue to red when exposed to nitrite ions. In addition, 1-Adamantylthiourea has been shown to be a good analytical reagent for determining metal levels in biological samples and is used in the preparation of coordination compounds in coordination chemistry.
