• Descripción: Isoamyl 4-hydroxybenzoate is an organic compound that is used as a preservative in cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. It is also used to inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus bacteria and has been shown to be effective in phase chromatography. Isoamyl 4-hydroxybenzoate is a diazide, which inhibits the growth of bacteria by inhibiting aerobic respiration. It binds to potassium phosphate, which causes it to be insoluble and precipitate out, thereby removing it from solution. Isoamyl 4-hydroxybenzoate can be found in coffee and tea as caffeine, but this form of the compound does not have antimicrobial activity. The sodium cholate in coffee or tea can also bind with isoamyl 4-hydroxybenzoate and remove it from solution.
