4-Acetamidopropiophenone is an ether with two optical isomers. One of the optical isomers, (+)-4-acetamidopropiophenone, has a pharmacological effect on the heart and blood vessels. In addition to this vasodilator activity, it has been shown to inhibit the activity of glycidyl esterase and camp phosphodiesterase, which are enzymes that break down glycidyl esters. This can lead to a decrease in the level of these compounds in the body, which could be responsible for its hypotensive effects. The other optical isomer of 4-acetamidopropiophenone does not have these properties.
