Trifluoroacetic acid is a hydrophobic molecule that has been used in the synthesis of 1-anilinonaphthalene-8-sulphonic acid magnesium. The magnesium salt of this compound is soluble in water and can be obtained as a white solid. Trifluoroacetic acid has been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects by binding to chloride ions, which are present in high concentrations on the surface of inflamed cells.
