Adrenomedullin (ADM) is a peptide hormone that belongs to the family of vasoactive peptides. ADM is secreted by the adrenal medulla and has antimicrobial activity against Gram-positive bacteria. It is found in amniotic fluid, maternal blood, and membranes during pregnancy. ADM may be involved in membrane permeability, which could contribute to increased blood flow or trophoblastic invasion in the placenta.
