Descripción

(-)-Asarinin is a natural product found in the fructus ligustri, which is used as a traditional medicine. (-)-Asarinin has been shown to suppress the proliferation of hl-60 cells through inhibition of DNA synthesis and cell cycle progression. (-)-Asarinin also has genotoxic activity and can induce apoptosis in HCT116 cells. (-)-Asarinin may be an anticancer agent that can inhibit tumor growth by preventing angiogenesis, which is the formation of new blood vessels from pre-existing ones. (-)-Asarinin is structurally related to sesamin, which is found in sesame oil and has antioxidant properties. It binds to Toll-like receptor 2 (TLR2) and TLR4, inhibiting the production of inflammatory cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and interleukin-6 (IL-6).
