3-Aminothiophene-2-carboxamide is an antimicrobial agent that belongs to the class of quinazolinones. It is a phosphotungstic acid derivative with antibacterial activity. 3-Aminothiophene-2-carboxamide inhibits bacterial growth by binding to bacterial enzyme and inhibiting its function. 3-Aminothiophene-2-carboxamide has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria in vitro, including methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus and Enterobacter cloacae, but not Pseudomonas aeruginosa or Escherichia coli. 3-Aminothiophene-2-carboxamide has been shown to be effective against gram positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Enterococcus faecalis, but not against gram negative bacteria such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa or Escherichia coli.
