3-Amino-5-tert-butylpyrazole is a chlorinating agent which can be used to produce 3,5-dichloropyridine. It is also an effective chlorinating agent for the synthesis of other compounds containing sulfur, nitrogen, or oxygen. This compound has been shown to oxidize acetonitrile in the presence of hydrochloric acid and chloroformate to produce acrylonitrile, nitrobenzene and nitropyridine. 3-Amino-5-tert-butylpyridinium chloride has been used as a coupling reagent in biomolecular chemistry for the alkylation of nucleosides with various compounds containing carbon disulfide.
