Diethoxydiethylsilane is a reactive silane that is used in the production of cationic polymers. It is a film-forming polymer with good thermal stability and can be used as a catalyst for the polymerization of olefins. Diethoxydiethylsilane has been shown to be effective as a catalyst for the polymerization of ethylene, propylene, and butadiene. The incorporation of this compound into polyethylene improves the thermal properties and reduces shrinkage during processing. Diethoxydiethylsilane also has been shown to serve as an effective solid catalyst for the polymerization of acrylic acid or acrylonitrile.
