Isobutylamine hydrochloride is a chemical compound that can be used as an analytical reagent. It is a salt of isoamyl amine, which is a primary amine. Isobutylamine hydrochloride is used to determine the presence of nitrogen in sodium salts and organic compounds. Isobutylamine hydrochloride reacts with sodium salts to form an alkyl-substituted ammonium ion, which reacts with ammonia to form the corresponding ammonium salt. This reaction can be used as a method for determining the amount of nitrogen present in the solution. Isobutylamine hydrochloride has been shown to inhibit cell proliferation in HL-60 cells and induce apoptosis through reactive oxygen species (ROS) production and mitochondrial dysfunction.
