Methyl 6-cyanonaphthalene-2-carboxylate is a bifunctional ligand that binds to metal ions. This compound has a dimeric structure, with two carboxylates and two naphthalene rings in each monomer. The emission spectra of this compound can be tuned by changing the metal ion or substituents on the ligand. Methyl 6-cyanonaphthalene-2-carboxylate can be used as a fluorescent probe for metal ions and has been used in polymer research as an electron donor.
