Amyl phenylacetate is an organic compound that is used in the synthesis of ester compounds. It can be synthesized from benzaldehyde and cyclohexanone by a Grignard reaction. Amyl phenylacetate has shown to have organoleptic properties, which are determined by the presence of functional groups. The activation mechanism for amyl phenylacetate is via a nucleophilic substitution at the carbonyl carbon, which is a part of its ester group. Amyl phenylacetate has been used as a precursor for pharmaceuticals and as a cancer drug to inhibit tumor growth. This compound also binds with phosphite, encompassing interaction with proteins and other chemical compounds.
