5-Chloro-1,2-dihydroacenaphthylene is a derivative of naphthalene. It is used as a raw material for the production of other substances. 5-Chloro-1,2-dihydroacenaphthylene has an amide group and a cyclopentane ring. It can be produced by reacting zinc powder with an organic solvent in the presence of ammonia and amide. The filtrate contains the product and the residue contains unreacted zinc. The hydrochloric acid is added to produce activated 5-chloro-1,2-dihydroacenaphthylene gas that can then react with divinylbenzene to form organometallic compounds, such as monohydric or polyhydric aliphatic compounds.
