Dodecyl stearate has been shown to have an important role in the synthesis of proteins by binding to messenger RNA and participating in the translation process. This process is essential for protein synthesis, which is critical for cell division. Dodecyl stearate is also able to permeabilize membranes by binding to phospholipids. This property makes dodecyl stearate useful in the synthesis of polycarboxylic acids, fatty esters, and other biologically active molecules that are membrane permeable.
