2-(3,4,5-Trimethoxyphenyl)acetaldehyde is a cataleptogenic drug that belongs to the pharmacological class of mescaline. It has been shown to have activity in an operant test and in an antibody titration assay. This compound also inhibits catalytic activity of oxidases and dehydrogenases, including the enzyme aldehyde dehydrogenase. 2-(3,4,5-Trimethoxyphenyl)acetaldehyde is metabolized by the liver through a number of pathways, including conjugation with glucuronic acid or sulphate. Disulfiram also inhibits the metabolism of this drug by blocking acetaldehyde dehydrogenase.
