It can be used to synthesize the natural product oxalyl chloride. Tert-Butyl 3-chlorophenylcarbamate has been shown to produce yields of up to 92% in postulated reactions with methanol. This drug is also a medicinally active inhibitor that has been used in the treatment of Parkinson's disease. Tert-Butyl 3-chlorophenylcarbamate can be deprotected by acid hydrolysis or base hydrolysis.
