4-Bromophenyl disulfide is a functional group that can be used as a monomer for the synthesis of polymers by copolymerization. It can also be used to control the rate of polymerization, and has been shown to react faster when using a sodium carbonate catalyst. 4-Bromophenyl disulfide is also stereoselective, which means that the reaction will produce a single product with the same configuration in both enantiomers. The reaction time can be controlled by changing the concentration of hydrogen chloride or sulfamic acid, and it is possible to cleave bonds between disulfides using magnesium.
