1-Phenyl-1H-tetrazole is a ligand that binds to metal ions. It has been used in coordination chemistry and as a reagent for organic synthesis, but it is most commonly used as an electrochemical probe. It can be adsorbed onto surfaces of various materials to produce an adsorption isotherm, which can be fitted using the Langmuir or the Freundlich adsorption isotherms. The coligand also has luminescence properties and may be used for the determination of metals in solution by potentiodynamic polarization or electrochemical impedance spectroscopy.
