It also inhibits the proliferation of epidermal growth factor (EGF) receptor-positive cells. Vacquinol-1 binds to collagen, which is present in all tissues of the body, including fetal bovine and human type I collagen gel. This binding leads to activation of cation channels, which then leads to apoptotic effect, cell death, and eventually tumor regression.
