It has an amide group in its molecular structure and is nonpolar. 2-Nitro-N-phenylbenzenesulfonamide has been shown to be effective against plant pathogenic fungi such as Botrytis cinerea, Phytophthora, and Phytophthora spp. This compound has also been shown to have a good spectrum of activity against other phytopathogens such as Alternaria tenuissima, Cladosporium spp., Fusarium oxysporum, Glomerella cingulata, Mycosphaerella fijiensis, Mycosphaerella graminicola, Mycosphaerella arachidicola, and Peronospora destructor.
