The antigenicity of 9-methylguanine and its ability to bind to antibodies suggest that it could serve as a model system for studying the molecular basis of autoimmune diseases. The reaction mechanism of 9-methylguanine has been studied by using chemical biology approaches, which revealed that this molecule forms hydrogen bonds with itself and other molecules in order to stabilize its structure.
