It has been shown to inhibit the growth of Mycobacterium smegmatis in vitro. 3-Methyl-phenyl propargyl ether also inhibits the growth of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, although it does not affect other mycobacteria. This compound has been shown to have a constant inhibition constant with a family chemistry and thermodynamic properties that are similar to those of other compounds.
