It has been found to be effective against many types of infectious diseases such as pneumonia, urinary tract infections, and septicemia. 2-Cyclopentylidenepropanedinitrile inhibits the synthesis of proteins by binding to nucleic acids in the bacterial cell membrane. This leads to an accumulation of toxic products inside the bacterial cell, which eventually causes cell death. 2-Cyclopentylidenepropanedinitrile also exhibits anti-inflammatory properties, which may be due to its inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis.
