Nifenalol hydrochloride is a propranolol derivative that acts as a nonselective beta blocker. It blocks the action of the enzyme responsible for converting norepinephrine to epinephrine, which reduces the heart's rate and blood pressure. Nifenalol HCl is used to treat high blood pressure, congestive heart failure, and arrhythmias. The molecule has been found to have anti-inflammatory properties in bowel disease models. These effects may be due to its ability to inhibit the release of inflammatory mediators by blocking beta receptors on smooth muscle cells in the bowel wall.
