Di(benzyloxy)methyl]benzene is an alcohol that is used in pharmaceutical products as a reactant for the synthesis of α-amino acid, benzyl alcohol, and acetal. It can be used in the synthesis of a number of different esters. Di(benzyloxy)methyl]benzene can also be used to form an oxidative ester by reacting with an alkenyl or benzyl alcohol, which leads to the formation of benzaldehyde or benzoic acid respectively. This compound is reversible, meaning it can be oxidized and reduced. The reversibility of this reaction makes it useful in both aerobic and anaerobic conditions.
