Descripción:Benzimidazoles are a class of compounds that have been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria. Benzimidazole has been studied as an antimicrobial agent and exhibits antibacterial properties in vitro. It also has shown anti-cancer activity and is being researched for its use in inhibiting the growth of hyperproliferative disease cells that are resistant to other antimicrobial agents. Benzimidazole binds to bacterial DNA by hydrogen bonding interactions, which prevents the binding of DNA-dependent RNA polymerase and inhibits transcription. This drug may be more effective than other drugs because it targets different sites on the bacterial cell wall, including the DNA gyrase enzyme, which is involved in maintaining the integrity of bacterial DNA.
