2-Bromo-1-tetralone is an antifungal agent that inhibits the synthesis of ergosterol in fungal cells. 2-Bromo-1-tetralone binds to the sterol nucleus, preventing the incorporation of a methyl group into C28. The reaction is efficient and rapid, with a kinetic time of less than 1 second. It has been shown to be effective against Aspergillus niger, Candida albicans, and Trichophyton mentagrophytes. 2-Bromo-1-tetralone can also be used as a precursor for other organic compounds such as thionyl chloride and naphthylamines.
