Benzo[b]thiophene-2-carboxylic acid is an organic compound that has been used to study cardiac hypertrophy. It is a benzo[b]thiophene-2-carboxylic acid, which is a subgroup of the thiophene family of compounds. The synthesis of this compound was accomplished by reacting 2-chloroacetyl chloride with 2,6-dichlorobenzothiophene in acetyl chloride at room temperature. Benzo[b]thiophene-2-carboxylic acid has been shown to inhibit the release of acetylcholine and cause chronic kidney disease in rats. This drug also acts as a molecular docking ligand for picolinic acid, an inhibitor of autoimmune diseases and cancer. In addition, it has been shown to have antiinflammatory properties by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis and suppressing immune responses in vitro.
