5-Bromonicotinaldehyde is a ligand that binds to the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor. This receptor is found in the brain and central nervous system, where it is involved in cognitive functions such as memory, attention, and learning. 5-Bromonicotinaldehyde has been shown to have an effect on Alzheimer's disease by repairing damaged neurons. It also inhibits bacterial growth through binding to the DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV enzymes. These enzymes are essential for bacterial replication and cell division. The molecular modeling of 5-Bromonicotinaldehyde reveals a β-unsaturated ketone with pharmacological activity against cancer cells, although its effects are not yet fully understood.
