3-Butoxypropionitrile is an organometallic compound that is structurally optimized for use as a transition metal catalysts. It can be used to activate unactivated transition metals, such as palladium, which are then used in the production of c-c bonds. The synthesis of 3-butoxypropionitrile involves a reaction between butylmagnesium chloride and nitric acid, with the addition of potassium cyanide to yield the desired product. The mechanism of this synthetic process has been mechanistically studied and found to be optimal for the production of 3-butoxypropionitrile.
